Vaccines Keyboardist T Truman Shares "Loretta", From His Upcoming EP "Born To Be Right"
New to DCWS is T Truman, who is sharing the new single "Loretta", lifted from his upcoming debut EP ‘Born To Be Right’, out September 25th.
The solo project and alter ego of the Vaccines’ keyboardist Timothy Lanham, he describes T Truman as his very own writing scapegoat. Channelling piano-pop heroes such as Todd Rundgren and Elton John, T Truman neatly bridges the gap between 70’s pop rock and modern indie, uniting irresistible pop songwriting with playfully ostentatious orchestration.
New single “Loretta” is a rollicking, piano-propelled stomper, showcasing T Truman's undeniable star quality. Addressing the song's titular character in its high-reaching chorus, and name-checking influences such as Elton John elsewhere, T Truman looks back to the past for inspiration - but the music he's making is undoubtedly forward facing.
Speaking on the new single release, T Truman commented: "I came up with the riff on a tiny keyboard in a hotel room in 5 minutes. It then took me over 3 months to come up with lyrics and a chorus that complemented it. Loretta should be my entry to urban dictionary as a term used for somebody who doesn't reciprocate."
Underused more recently as the primary instrument for modern indie-rock, T Truman is able to bring the piano to the forefront in his compositions. Adding a layer of authenticity and honesty to his music, his piano-playing – together with his unmistakeable, powerful voice form an almighty partnership.
Building his elaborate compositions from his London home or on the road, T Truman then adds layers and ideas sporadically until he’s happy with what he’s got, before bringing the tracks to the studio to add finishing touches.
"Loretta" is the third track to be heard from T Truman’s much anticipated debut EP ‘Born To Be Right’, following the previously released singles “Holiday” and “Rock ’n’ Roll”. 'Born To Be Right’ is set for release on 25th September, co-written and co-produced by friend and long-term collaborator Geoff Roberts.
