San Diego Post Punk Band Hauntu Drop Their New Track "Sadist Sun"
Earlier this year, San Diego, California's Hauntu, a band comprised of former members of Luna/Warsaw, Holy Tears, The Dropscience, Fluf, and more, releases a limited-edition 7" via Sell The Heart Records. Now, the band is back with a brand new single, "Sadist Sun."
The band says, "'Sadist Sun' was originally written over two years ago and has gone through more changes than any other Hauntu song, including being transposed and rewritten in a completely different key than it was originally composed in. Something about it just wasn't hitting right, but once we dropped the key down a half step everything clicked into place and it quickly became one of our favorite songs."
A product of pandemic isolation, these intial tracks from Hauntu, which have been described as "immediate, dangerous, and real," were written as a reaction to what's become of the world these last few years. The weight, the panic, and the dread that living through post-pandemic capitalism and imperialism has placed upon humanity. There is a fine balance.
Hauntu's sound is dark, heavy, and straight to the gut with hints of metal and goth strewn throughout its garagey undertones. But, not all is bleak - Hauntu's message is also filled with beauty and hope too. Taking inspiration from bands like Wipers and Hot Snakes this band offers a very immediate, in your face approach to fast downstroked guitars, and infuses layers of lush, pretty, and dare I say catchy vocals. Simply, this is the kind of music that will leave a mark.
