Ghanaian Artist Aamowi Shares Two Sultry New Singles, "Summerberry" and "Passion Fruit"
Heavily influenced by Jazz, Soul and R&B, Aamowi’s modern alternative take on the traditional genres gives rise to two soulful, soothing and sultry songs, “Summerberry” and Passion Fruit”.
Drawing comparisons with the likes of Sade, Erykah Badu and Jhene Aiko, Aamowi sets out to redefine the meaning of Soul as it is known to her through experimental fusion with genres from around the world.
Produced by Gaijin, Noah Simeon (Summerberry) and the Abstract Sun production duo (PassionFruit), the project explores themes of love, passion and desire inspired by a variety of people from her life. Speaking on the singles, “SummerberryPassionFruitMedley” is reflective of my state of mind and place in life at the time I wrote them. I would like listeners to connect with the elements that resonate with them in each song, but I do hope this is music that people can vibe and relax to and something that brings them joy.”
Born in London but raised in Ghana from age 6, Aamowi has always had a deep rooted love for music, finding her joy in the songs she heard on the radio, music videos that played on MTV and Channel O, and the CDs her mother would bring home from her travels abroad. Aamowi spent the early years of her life soaking in her father’s extensive music collection which featured a diverse plethora of artists from around the world including Sérgio Mendes, Tracy Chapman, Erykah Badu, Angelique Kidjo, Bob Marley, Bill Withers to name a few. Her own journey of musical discovery began with her first ever collection of CD albums from Alicia Keys (Songs in A Minor—which she credits as her first prominent musical influence), Britney Spears (Britney), Janet Jackson (All For You) and Missy Elliott (Miss E... So Addictive).
Her time in school bands and choirs growing up harnessed her acute appreciation for complex harmonies and layered sounds as well as the beauty of soulful and emotional music.
This debut release serves as an introduction to the quirky, passionate and soulful artist that is Aamowi. Constantly inspired by music wherever she can find it, she hopes to create a legacy of genre-fluidity and eclectic sound fusion in her time.
