DOPEST Song of the Day: "Can't Wait" by House of Whales, Featuring Adam Ness

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

House of Whales is back!

"We are re-discovering our voice and offering light in a time of darkness." Producer/Drummer Aunnoy Badruzzaman reflects on what has helped Oakland, California-based House of Whales transform from a band into a collective focused on the intersections of art, healing, and lifestyle.

In the past couple of years, House of Whales personally endured lay-offs, lost loved ones, tripled parenting duties, and fought to protect the earth against toxic polluting industries. Originating in Chicago as an independent group, they were never strangers to the collective power of community and coming together, and the grit it takes to survive sometimes as an artist. House of Whales is reemerging in full force and with a purpose to use their music to inspire individual and collective healing. Because feeling inspired, hopeful, connected to others, and believing in a new path out of this darkness is needed now more than ever.

"We really wanted to share our story with the world," says Badruzzaman, "we are producing a documentary that does a deep dive into our healing and fitness journeys that will end with an adventure filled trip to Costa Rica."

The collective has brought on Chicago-area based Athletic Director Brett Velon, Tamarindo, Costa Rica-based professional surfer Alejandro Cespedes, Las Vegas-based independent musician Larry Coleman 2020, and Bay Area-based Social Justice Entrepreneur Renae Badruzzaman to help guide their transformation.

House of Whales has quietly released two singles at the end of 2020 that amassed over a quarter million plays on their platforms. And they are showing no signs of slowing down. On "Airwaves", MC/Keyboardist Rico Sisney recalls a time when air travel was more or less enjoyable and offered listeners a chance to go on airplane mode and fall into a groove filled, melodic, lo-fi anthem. The larger-than-life melody on "Bright Side" gives guitarist/bassist Luis Mayorga a chance to paint a musical canvas that could easily find itself blaring on the radio during a summer night in 1970s Oakland.

The band's most recent single, "Can't Wait", our DOPEST Song of the Day, is a true testament for the current times. DJ/Producer Danny Varela showcases his skills as listeners are moved from a sweet lullaby to a drum-fueled dance party in a matter of four minutes. All while Chicago singer-songwriter Adam Ness graces the track with moments of joy and longing.

The House of Whales collective invites you to join them on their journey as they release new music and build healing communities.
